John Cowper Powys (1872-1963) was the author of such novels as Wolf Solent, A Glastonbury Romance, Maiden Castle, Owen Glendower, Porius, and The Brazen Head. From 1904 to 1934 he toured America as a successful lecturer. Recent publications of his Diaries received widespread critical enthusiasm. T. F. Powys (1875-1953), the Dorset novelist, is best known for such allegorical novels as Mr Tasker's Gods and Mr Weston's Good Wine, which explore evil and tragedy through a rural world tinged in the depiction with grotesque humour. Their brother Llewelyn (1884-1939) is known for his lively fiction and essays typified by Black Laughter, The Verdict of Bridlegoose, Earth Memories, and Dorset Essays
